Interested

        

I am more interested in the whole

but also the parts that make it so
I care not for the vain toasts
of media hacks and their gossip roasts

Their life is void of vision
of such they wish you to join
never again to think or mourn
your lot in life is not their thorn

Dare to dream! Do it if you must!
Leave it in secret, or with someone you trust
Tell your tales, leave none by the wayside
Never be a follower nor leader of the tide

You'll hear rumors of vile things done
no proof, just whispered behind walls of white
but you'll believe anything if coerced
by the cult of personality they thrust

Forward! Forward! March on to war!
And let your sons and daughters keep score
Their limbs will make their mark
while bodies pile high in the dark

I am more interested in the here and now
lessening the grip of one on the crowd
but everyone seems more interested in
ignoring their flaws- never making friends

You think, therefore you are,
but how do you know it's your thoughts at all?
Too many know-it-alls and fact-checkers around
they'll let you know, when you've run aground

Just sit idly by and wait
don't run, only hesitate
they'll keep you from harming yourself
just shut off your mind- uninterested, unkept

Leaves

A nip, a chill, leaves trickle down 

grassy hills now crunchy and brown

A season of change is underway

may it bring peace to all this day

Witch's Tree

For the last weekend in October, we delve into the legend of the Witch's Tree. I remember as a kid, piling into an SUV with a group of adults and other kids, and driving into the countryside (after leaving a very spooky haunted house ride) to see the legendary Witch's Tree. I remember the eerie feeling of driving into the dark, the headlights being the only light, illuminating the creepy sight of the bent tree. This story is based on that night.
